A place that will let me be slightly less bored at work.
A place that will let you see what I'm thinking about.
A place that will let me be lazy, and do no real development.
A place for you.
A place for me.

Saying that Java is nice because it works on all OS's is like saying that anal sex is nice because it works on all genders

If you read my comments ever, you'll see that Myles was quick to point out my typo using the suffix "-esque". I'd like to point you to his entry on October 18th (2004):

First thing is that I'm getting married. Quite exciting. It's going to happen officially on July 16th, 2004. Yay!

Either Myles is already married, OR we're going to be given a ride in a time machine!!!

(I'm hoping for the time machine).

Props to Shane for pointing this out.

Tim pointed out that if you do a google image search for "crossdress", we're the on the first page of results. If safe search is on, we're the second image. Whoa.

It seems to me that women in engineering fields slowly adopt the mannerisms of the men that surround them. I mean, I doubt many women will be grabbing their crotch and farting any time too soon. Yet smaller things such as acknowledgment of presence and greetings seem likely cantidates. For example, one of the women who has been here as long as I have just acknowledged that I was present in the room by giving the curt nod that so many engineers adopt. Few other women I know offer acknowledgement in this way, most wave or at least smile. Just the thought of the day.

In praise of SnapGear and Cyberguard. At work, until recently, we employed two SnapGear units to provide connectivity between TJ and SLO. These little boxes have worked wonderfully, and I'm constantly amazed at how well they perform. Recently our ISA server started having trouble, and we were intent on replacing it with a product designed to be a gateway for small/medium businesses called IT-in-a-Box. Now, don't get me wrong. IT-in-a-box serves a function, it's great for people who don't know anything at all. The problem though is if you ever figure something out about anything you're screwed. Case in point our network required that we be able to setup a few custom routes, can't do it with the IT-in-a-box. It's simple hat on the SnapGear unit. Now, this is just bitchiness. I think my real complaint about IT-in-a-box is their GROSS violation of the GPL. I'm not a free software nazi... but when I console in to your unit and it says LINUX on boot up... I expect some source code so I can do what I want with your hardware. THEN when we call tech support, one of the guys had the balls to say a root account didn't exist on the box. SnapGear however has you login as root to change things, they let you ssh into the box, they give you the source code on the CD included with the box for their embedded version of linux. IT doesn't even admin they are running linux....

So BRAVO Cyberguard and SnapGear, you're everything an embedded linux solution should be. IT-in-a-box... you should be ashamed.

Note: The previous post does not reflect the views of my company in any way. This is my own personal opinion, and should be read as such.

Holy Moley it's been a long week and a day since the last update. Very busy now, but having fun with my programs (save one). Work is the usual, and I'm making progress on my senior project. I still need to write my essays for the peace corps. application. Beyond that though things are going farily well... minus the whole no money for food thing. I do get paid on Weds. though so that's always nice. Yeah, that'll do for now...

I went camping with my old Cub Scout pack. It was fun, but a funny thing happened. I was talking with one of the Den Chiefs, he must have been about 16 and he said something or other insulting, or maybe at some point during the day he was being a little ass (in jest of course). So, in either case, I decided that it would be funny to take him down. I did a take out I learned in Aikido on him, and immediatley he jumped up and was like "Did you take Aikido from Ken Ota??". Of course I had, and it turned out that he was actually in the kids class that I had helped out in when he was like 7. I just thought that it was funny how he recognized the move. It felt very martial arts movie -eque. "I see you use flying duck claw monster style".

Whew, I've gotta stop doing this to myself. I'm busy (surprise). Actually it's not too bad, since my weekends from here on out are relatively free and clear I'm going to be able to finish up my larger coding projects on weekends, and do my standard homework during the week. It's just been pretty insane lately at work and at school. I am having fun though, my classes (save EE) are very interesting. Networks the lecture is boring, but the lab is totally sweet... and even the programs, while difficult are very interesting to work on. Even AI is interesting, although the programs too will be rather challenging. We just got our newest assignment... and it's not due for like 3 weeks. That gives a hint to its scope =P Well, I'm going to go and take a well deserved sit in the UU now.
